In Their Own Story

The air inside the small Berkeley rehearsal space hummed with fluorescent lights and the smell of stale coffee. Billie Joe scribbled lyrics on a napkin while Mike tuned his bass under a workbench light. Tré counted off the beat, sweat already forming on his brow despite the cold room. They knew this recording session mattered; it was their last shot before the industry machine would either swallow them whole or spit them out.

The original Lookout! release featured twelve tracks that showcased the band's rapid evolution. Key songs include 'Longview' and 'She', which became anthems for a generation of disaffected youth. While it did not chart massively upon initial indie release, its reissue by Reprise propelled it into wider circulation.
